Open to software engineering roles and internships
Saket Kumar Mall
Software Developer & Open Source Contributor
I build backend systems, data pipelines and developer tooling, and I contribute to open source. What draws me in is the part of engineering that starts after a feature works, when it has to be fast, reliable, and clear enough to still make sense to whoever opens the code next.
I’m a software developer from India. I completed a Bachelor of Computer
Applications at SRM Institute of Science & Technology in June 2026, and I’m now
pursuing a Master of Computer Applications at the same institute.
Most of what I build is backend and data work: a full-stack scheduling platform
on Spring Boot, a streaming sentiment pipeline on Google Cloud, an
embedding-based resume ranker. The half that holds my attention is always the
second one, once the feature works and it has to stay fast and stay correct
while real traffic arrives.
I contribute to open source for the same reason. It is the quickest way I know
to work on software that already has users, where a change has to fit code
somebody else wrote and survive review by people who know it better than I do.
Alongside that I keep a steady habit with data structures and algorithms. A
thousand solved problems is a routine, not a target.
Space-time datasets were invisible in the GRASS GUI. I extended the Data Catalog to read the temporal database directly, list STRDS, STVDS and STR3DS in their mapset trees, and manage them without dropping to the command line.
Program
Google Summer of Code 2026
Organization
GRASS (under NumFOCUS)
Mentors
Anna Petrasova, Stefan Blumentrath
Period
May 2026 - Aug 2026
What the work covers
STRDS, STVDS and STR3DS listed alongside spatial maps in their mapset trees
Context menus for creating, renaming, deleting and managing datasets
Registering and unregistering maps from a dataset without leaving the GUI
Search and filtering extended to cover temporal datasets
SQL-backed loading replacing per-dataset module calls, cutting catalog load time
Maps already registered in a dataset no longer duplicated in the standalone list
An autonomous revenue-recovery agent for failed payments, abandoned checkouts and overdue invoices. It holds one case in five out of its own reach as a control arm, and reports only the incremental difference, with intervals, whether or not that flatters it.
A full-stack productivity platform for meetings, deadlines and leave workflows: a Spring Boot API over a normalized MySQL schema, a hand-built HTML, CSS and JavaScript frontend, and JWT-backed role access.
A streaming pipeline on Google Cloud that processes multilingual YouTube comments with sub-minute latency and surfaces sentiment trends in an interactive dashboard.
